The biblical story of the Three Wise Men is one of the main themes of the birth of Jesus Christ. While his mother Mary and father Joseph brought him into the world in that tiny barn in Bethlehem, three wise men traveling the desert noticed the Star of Bethlehem in the sky above and followed to the location of Christ’s birth.
Upon their arrival, the Three Wise Men showered the young child with gifts. Among those was the gift of gold, which is represented perfectly in this coin release. In an internal capsule within the coin’s design, you’ll find a leaf of 24-karat gold that is visible from both the obverse and reverse sides of the coin.
On the obverse of the 3 Wise Men – Gift of Gold Coin you’ll find the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s figure as depicted on this particular coin comes from Ian Rank-Broadley, and was created in 1998 as the fourth-generation image of the Queen. Engravings include the nation of issue, year of issue, face value, and weight, metal content, and purity of the coin.
The reverse side of the coin captures the image of the Three Wise Men kneeling in the barn as they meet the newborn Jesus Christ. There are two small lambs just visible in the background field, with the Star of Bethlehem hanging in the sky above in the background.
