These 2017 1 oz Australian Silver Rooster Coins are the second release of Year of the Rooster coins from the Perth Mint. In the previous Lunar Series, available from 1996 to 2007, the Year of the Rooster was featured on the 2005 Lunar Series I coin. There is an all-new design for the Lunar Series II Year of the Rooster coin.
On the reverse of the Australian Silver Rooster coin is the image used on all silver Year of the Rooster releases. It includes a family of chickens, led by a bold rooster and featuring a hen with three chicks pecking for morsels on the ground. The surrounding imagery includes native plant species from China.
The obverse of all 2017 1 oz Australian Silver Rooster coins features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s depiction is captured in right-profile relief and was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
