Three specimens were found in the Baldans of Alberta, with paleontologists concluding that this species of dinosaurs was covered in a down-like coat of feathers that grew into longer feathers to form primitive wings.
For the 2017 1 oz Antique Canadian Silver Ancient Canada Ornithomimus Coin, the image of the Ornithomimus fossil used in the design is based upon a specimen numbered TMP 1995.110.1 which is curated at the Royal Tyrell Museum of Paleontology. The design is verified by paleontologists at the museum in Alberta, lending incredible historical accuracy to this coin’s design.
On the reverse of the Ornithomimus Coin is that design of the dinosaur fossil, along with an antique finish to both sides that gives the coin the appearance of ancient Roman coinage. Each one has a traditional round shape that is slightly irregular, so no two coins are exactly the same in physical shape.
