The all-new American Palladium Eagle was actually authorized by Congress in 2010 with the passage of the American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coin Act of 2010, but implementation of the coin series was left to the discretion of the Treasury Secretary. For now, the 2017 American Palladium Eagle will be made available in bullion version, with the possibility for uncirculated and proof coinage later.
As with other coins in the American Eagle series, historic American coinage designs are coming to the obverse and reverse of the new Palladium Eagles. On the obverse of the new 2017 Palladium Eagle you’ll find Adolph A. Weinman’s Winged Liberty design along with engravings of “Liberty” and “In God We Trust.”
Weinman is the man behind the creation of Winged Liberty for the US 10-cent piece in 1916. Also known as the Mercury Dime, this image is a classic in the United States and was in circulation from 1916 until 1945.
On the reverse of the 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle is the image of an American bald eagle, but not one you are likely familiar with. This creation also came from Weinman, but featured on the 1907 American Institute of Architects medal. It features the bald eagle perched on a large branch with a small olive branch in its claws and beak.
Each of the 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coins in this listing is in BU condition. Coins in BU condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice minor flaws ranging from breaks in the luster and spotted surfaces to contact marks from the coining process at the mint.
