American Gold Eagles are part of the American Eagle bullion coin program from the United States Mint. Consisting of gold and silver coins in bullion, proof, and burnished versions, as well as a platinum bullion and proof option, the American Eagles are the best sellers at the US Mint annually. Today the 2017 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle coin is available from JM Bullion with a perfect certification grade.
Coin Highlights:
The American Gold Eagle coin program debuted in 1986 with bullion and proof versions available, but fractional-weight coins such as this ¼ oz. specimen were only available in bullion. Historically the smaller coins were minted in numbers similar to the 1 oz, but today the ¼ oz American Gold Eagle has a much lower mintage than the 1 oz or 1/10 oz coin, which is the most popular of the four weights.
Each 2017 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle Coin in this listing is considered a perfect specimen with an MS70 grade from the NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and lack any detracting flaw on the surface areas. Early Release coins are those which have arrived at the NGC for certification within the first 30 days of the release date for 2017 issue coins as set by the United States Mint.
On the obverse of all American Gold Eagle coins is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic image of Liberty. Created in 1907 by Saint-Gaudens, he never actually lived to see his creation reach circulation on the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin. He died just months before the coins went into production after complications from an illness.
The reverse of the 2017 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin features a family of bald eagles congregating around their nest. As a group of hatchlings rest inside the nest a mother eagle stands guard. Meanwhile, a male is depicted returning to the nest with an olive branch. This design was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek for the exclusive use of the American Gold Eagle series.
