American coinage has long featured iconic and inspirational images that represent the nation, its people, and its culture. Among the most famous and widely used images are those of Lady Liberty and the bald eagle. Inspired by the images of Justice and furthered by the erection of the Statue of Liberty, depictions of Lady Liberty grace countless coins. The national emblem since 1792, it’s easier to find coins the bald eagle doesn’t appear on than to count those it does appear on. Right now, these images are available on the 2017 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle Coin courtesy of JM Bullion.

All 2017 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle Coins in this listing are in MS69 condition. Considered near-perfect specimens by the NGC, these coins exhibit full, original mint luster and bear a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited in scope and range to miniscule hairlines or contact marks located outside the primary focal areas of the coin’s surface.
Early Release is a designation for coins received within a specific time window by the NGC for the purposes of certification. In order to qualify, the coins must arrive within the first 30 days of the issue date set by the US Mint.
The American Gold Eagle coin debuted in 1986 as a bullion coin with four weights available. These included a 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/10 oz weight in addition to the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle. Interestingly enough, the Proof American Gold Eagle also debuted that year, but only in a 1 oz weight.
On the obverse face of every 2017 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle is the image of Lady Liberty. First created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this image depicts Lady Liberty leading the nation into an unknown future. Featured in full-length relief, she strides forward from the city of Washington DC with her torch held high to offer a guiding light for the country.
The reverse of the 2017 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle features a design used exclusively on the American Gold Eagle. Created by Miley Busiek in 1986, the depictions offers a glimpse at a family of nesting bald eagles. As the male flies over the nest, a female keeps a close watch of the hatchlings in the nest.
