Lunar Series II coins carry on the tradition of the original Lunar Series from the Perth Mint. Introduced in 1996, the original Lunar Series was immensely popular among both collectors and investors as a first-of-its-kind series of coins.
Each new release in the series features a different design to highlight the given animal represented by the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The 10th release is for the Year of the Rooster, and the Perth Mint has separate designs for the silver and gold versions of the Year of the Rooster coin.
On the reverse of these 2017 ½ oz Australian Gold Rooster Coins you’ll find the image of a single rooster, surrounded by a background of native foliage from China. Engravings include the Perth Mint’s mint mark, the Chinese symbol for rooster, and the name of this release.
The obverse of all Australian Gold Rooster coins includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, this is the fourth-generation image of Her Majesty used since she ascended to the British throne in 1952.
All 2017 ½ oz Australian Gold Rooster Coins in this listing are BU coins. Products with a Brilliant Uncirculated condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice visual flaws such as breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the coining process.
Perth Mint was the last of three Royal Mint facilities constructed by the British in Australia in 1899. Following the closure of the Sydney Mint and Melbourne Mint, the Perth Mint remained as the oldest operating facility in the country.
