In 2016, the United States Mint issued two Proof American Silver Liberty Medals. The medals feature the same designs on the obverse and reverse fields, but were issued by two separate mints. These silver medals were produced at the West Point Mint and bear a “W” mint mark, while the other medals were issued by the San Francisco Mint with an “S” mint mark.
All of the 2016-W Proof American Silver Liberty Medals in this product listing are available to you with traditional proof visuals. The design elements and background fields have contrasting visuals courtesy of the frosted designs and mirrored elements. The medals are individually packaged inside of a protective plastic capsule and seated inside of a flip-open, blue US Mint display box. In the design, a young Liberty stands in a front-facing relief wearing a crown wreath with a large torch in her right hand and the US flag on a flagpole in her left hand. The date mark and initials of the designers are found on this face of the silver medals.
Reverse imagery on the 2016-W Proof American Silver Liberty Medal depicts the American bald eagle. The national symbol of the United States of America since 1792, the bald eagle is shown on this face of the silver medal in left-profile relief as it glides in flight clutching an olive branch in its claws slung under its body.
