In 2016, the United States Mint celebrated the centennial of some of the greatest coin designs in American history with the American Gold Centennial Series. Among them was the 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter. Right now, 2016-W 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coins are available to purchase online from JM Bullion in perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2016-W 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coin in this product listing has a perfect certification from the NGC. The coins have a Specimen 70 certification that means each one exhibits full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind on the design elements or background fields. The Specimen, or SP, designation is for coins the NGC considers a hybrid between Mint State and Proof coins in terms of visuals.
Hermon Atkins MacNeil designed the Standing Liberty design in 1916 for the United States Mint as it was seeking to replace the Liberty bust on the Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar known as the Barber Coinage.
The obverse side of the 2016-W American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coin features a depiction of the full figure of Lady Liberty. She is depicted standing between two walls as a defensive figure. She holds a round shield with the US national shield on its surface in her left hand as she looks toward heraldic east and the war raging in Europe at this point in history. Her right-hand holds an olive branch and rests on the other side of the wall.
On the reverse face of 2016 American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coins is MacNeil’s reverse design from the US Quarter produced between 1916 and 1930. The image here shows a bald eagle flexing its wings as it glides through the air. The field includes 13 stars around the outer edge. All of these coins were produced at the West Point Mint and come with “W” mint marks.
