In 2016, the United States Mint had a number of events to celebrate. Not only was 2016 the 30th anniversary of the American Eagle bullion coins, but it was also the 100th anniversary of the Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and Walking Liberty Half Dollar denominations. Each one of the coin designs was revived on 24-karat gold bullion coins from the US Mint with nominal face values honoring the original denomination the designs featured on. Right now, the 2016-W 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coin is available to purchase online from JM Bullion in perfect condition.

Hermon Atkins MacNeil designed the image of Liberty that appeared on the US quarter from 1916 to 1930. MacNeil’s design replaced the Barber Coinage design that shared the same Liberty bust across the dime, quarter, and half dollar. MacNeil’s design was the shortest-lived of the coin images released in 1916.
The obverse of 2016-W 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coins features the depiction of Standing Liberty. Liberty stands in the gap of a wall with a shield bearing the national heraldic shield on it in her left hand to guard against the war raging in Europe at this time, and clutches an olive branch in her right hand to symbolize America’s desire to remain neutral and at peace.
On the reverse face of 2016-W 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Coin is a depiction of the American bald eagle in flight. A ring of 50 stars surrounds the design field. MacNeil created both images for the US quarter back in 1916. However, his design was the least pleasing to Americans at the time and underwent numerous changes to the specific elements. It was halted in 1930 and eventually replaced in 1932 by the Washington bust.
