The American Gold Centennial Series was issued in 2016 to mark the centennial of the 1916 redesign of the US dime, quarter, and half dollar. At that point in time, these coins had a shared obverse design and two of the three had the same reverse. All had been created in 1892 by US Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. The 1916 redesign saw Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty chosen for the half dollar and his Winged Liberty chosen for the dime. Hermon Atkins MacNeil’s design of Standing Liberty was chosen for the quarter.

All of these 2016-W 1/4 oz American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coins are available to you in near-perfect condition. Coins in SP69 condition have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin.

On the obverse of the 2016 American Gold Standing Liberty Quarter coin is the image of Standing Liberty. Reflective of the tumultuous era, Liberty is shown with an olive branch in one hand and a shield in the other as she stands in the gap of a wall. The design was meant to reflect America’s cautious approach to World War I in Europe.

The reverse of 2016-W 1/4 oz Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Coins comes with a depiction of the American bald eagle. In this design, the powerful bird gracefully glides through the air with its wings spread to maximum reach.
