From its introduction in 1988 until 2008, the 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coin had outsold the other three coins in the collectible range of gold from the US Mint. However, following the Great Recession, the 1/10 oz coin did not maintain its position atop the heap. Today, 2016 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins are available to you with an NGC certification at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
For the 2016 issue of Proof American Gold Eagle Coins, the United States Mint removed mintage caps and household purchase limits on original sales. The 1/10 oz coin had no individual mintage cap and the 4-Coin Proof Gold Eagle Set was also available without a mintage cap on the coins.
Between 2012 and 2015, the Proof American Gold Eagle Coins all settled into a stable range reminiscent of the mid-1990s when the coins had relatively flat demand from one year to the next. The highest 1/10 oz mintage during this period came in 2015 at 26,769, while the lowest came in 2012 at 20,740.
All of the 2016 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagles available to you here are perfect specimens. The NGC issues a PF70 certification to any coin with full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. The inclusion of a UCAM label means the coins have impressive visual brilliance which includes strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored backgrounds.
The obverse of the 2016 Proof American Gold Eagle bears the iconic design of Liberty from 1907. Created by Irish-American artist and sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the design was used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933.
On the reverse side of all 2016 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagles is the image of American bald eagles. Created exclusively for the Gold Eagle collection in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this design includes a female sheltering a hatchling in the nest as a male flies overhead.
