The 2016 American Gold Commemorative Coin series from the United States Mint celebrates some of the most iconic coin designs from American history. Each release honors a design originally unveiled in 1916, marking 100 years of beautiful coin designs. Today, the first release is available on the 2016 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dime Coin with a near-perfect specimen grade courtesy of JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Winged Liberty dimes were released into circulation in the United States in 1916, but were eventually better known as Mercury Dimes. Adolph A. Weinman’s Winged Liberty design reminded many of the Roman god Mercury and his winged cap. It is the first release in a three-coin 2016 Gold Commemorative Coin series, featuring three designs that originated in 1916.
Each of these 2016-W 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dime Coins has a unique Specimen Proof 69 grade from the NGC. This identifies a coin with a proof-like finish with full, original luster from the mint and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. As an Early Release coin, these products had to arrive for grading at the NGC within the first 30 days of the US Mint’s release.
On the obverse of the coin, you’ll find the original Winged Liberty design from Weinman. The reverse side of the 2016 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dime is an exact replica of the Roman fasces and olive branch. Both designs are exact duplicates of Weinman’s Mercury Dime designs in circulation from 1916 to 1945.
These SP69 coins were struck by the West Point Mint facility, and ship to you with a 100th Anniversary celebratory label inside the protective plastic slab. Total mintage for these coins is set for 125,000.
