2016 marked the centennial of some of the most famous designs of early 20th-century coinage in the United States. In 1916, the Barber Coinage designs on the dime, quarter, and half dollar were among the final American coins to be redesigned in the major overhaul of American coinage that had started a decade earlier in the early 1900s. Among those designs celebrated in .9999 pure gold commemorative coins in 2016 was the Mercury Dime. Today, near-perfect 2016-W 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dime Coins are available to you online from JM Bullion.

Starting in the early 1900s with the US Eagle gold coins, the US Mint began to modernize and overhaul its coin designs. The US Eagle denominations were redesigned in 1906 and 1907, with the US penny redesigned in 1909 and the nickel in 1913. The 1916 redesign program replaced the Barber Coinage designs on the dime, quarter, and half dollar with new images, two of which came from Adolph A. Weinman. His popular Winged Liberty design on the dime became colloquially known as the Mercury Dime.
All of these 2016-W 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dime Coins are available to you for purchase today with near-perfect certifications from the PCGS or NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and no more than two minor detracting flaws present. Those flaws are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines only and are limited in scope to the areas outside of the primary focal points.
Please note that these coins could come with additional labels in the slab, such as Early Release or First Strike. We cannot guarantee the presence of these additional labels, only the SP69 certification label. If you buy several, you may receive coins with the same labels, varying labels, and even varying PCGS or NGC label cards in the slab.
On the obverse of 2016-W 1/10 oz American Gold Mercury Dime Coin is the effigy of Winged Liberty created by Adolph A. Weinman. This image of Liberty depicts her bust in left-profile relief with a winged Phrygian cap on her head. The design reminded Americans of effigies of the Roman messenger god Mercury, giving rise to the use of the name Mercury Dime to refer to the coin.
The reverse face of 2016 American Gold Mercury Dimes features the image of a Roman fasces. A symbol of power among Roman magistrates, this fasces is wrapped by an olive branch to also showcase peace.
