The reverse side of the 2016-S Proof Silver Liberty Medals features the iconic American bald eagle, which has been the nation’s symbol since 1792. The eagle is shown in left-profile relief, soaring with an olive branch grasped in its talons as it flies through the sky.
In 2016, the US Mint issued two versions of the Proof American Silver Liberty Medal, each with the same designs on both the obverse and reverse. However, they were minted at different facilities. The 2016-W medals were struck at the West Point Mint, marked with a “W” mint mark, while the other version was produced at the San Francisco Mint with an “S” mint mark.
