Each of the individual coins in this brilliant 2016 Proof Australian Silver Kangaroo Four-Coin Set has a different mintage. While the set has a total mintage of 3,000, the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/10 oz coins have individual mintages of 3,000, as well, to meet the quota for these sets.
However, the 1/4 oz coin will have a total mintage of 13,000 coins. Of those, 3,000 are devoted to this 2016 Proof Australian Silver Kangaroo Four-Coin Set, while the remaining 10,000 proof coins are set for release as individual products.
The Perth Mint will ship the coins in a black presentation case with a velvet-lined space for each of the four coins to sit individually. On top of that, the box will ship to you in a presentation-themed shipper that includes the coin’s reverse image, as well as the words “2016 Australian Kangaroo.”
On the reverse of every coin in the series you’ll find the image of a kangaroo as it hops across the field of view, with a stylized sun rising in the background with its rays of light stretching to the edges of the coin.
Flip each coin over and you’ll notice the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II captured on the obverse. This was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, and serves as the fourth-generation depiction of Her Majesty to grace commonwealth coins since 1952.
The Perth Mint was founded in 1899 as the third and final installation in the former Royal Mint system under British control. Following Australian federation 1902, the other two mints were slowly phased out of operation through 1965, when the Royal Australian Mint was opened. The Perth Mint was transfered from British to Australian hands in 1970, and is now owned by the state of Western Australia.
