Coin Highlights:
The 2016 ATB Theodore Roosevelt National Park Silver Coin is one of only two designs in the 56-coin series that feature two US presidents. While President George Washington, the nation’s first president, is on the obverse of all the coins in the series, only two coins have reverse designs with other presidents. Both of those coins represent the Dakotas.
On the North Dakota coin in the series, President Theodore Roosevelt is featured on the reverse of the coin issued in his name for the state he loved. President Roosevelt was an avid outdoorsman and a big proponent of preserving wildlands across the United States. In fact, many of the nation’s vast tracts of federally protected land stem from the efforts of Roosevelt’s administration in the early 20th century.
The reverse of 2016-P Burnished ATB Theodore Roosevelt National Park Silver Coins depicts Roosevelt riding on horseback as he approaches an overlook where he can view the land on either side of the Little Missouri River. There are three separate sites within Theodore Roosevelt National Park spread out across the badlands of western North Dakota.
