The 2016-P 5 oz Burnished ATB Harpers Ferry Silver Coin is currently available to you for purchase online from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The history of Harpers Ferry dates back more than 8,000 years when the Tuscarora people inhabited the area in large numbers. By the 18th century though, the Tuscarora had vanished from the region. Among the early Europeans to migrate to the area was a man named Robert Harper. He obtained a patent for the land that now bears his name from the Virginia colonial legislature in 1751.
In the years since, Harpers Ferry was primarily known as a federal munitions armory established by President George Washington. The nation’s first president recognized the value of the site and utilized the water power from the two merging rivers to power manufacturing early on. Harpers Ferry was also the site of John Browns’ raid just a year before the Civil War began.
On the reverse side of 2016-P 5 oz Burnished ATB Harpers Ferry Silver coins is the image of John Browns Fort. The fort is little more than a firehouse established at the armory site, but it is notable because Brown made a last stand in the building following a raid on the armory. He had hoped to arm freed slaves and lead them against US forces to try and overthrow the nation’s system of slavery. In an ironic twist, Brown was captured by US Marines under the leadership of US Army Colonel Robert E. Lee who would later lead all Confederate forces during the Civil War.
The obverse side of the Burnished ATB Silver Coins includes a left-profile portrait of George Washington. Based on the 1932 portrait of Washington used on all circulation quarter, this design appears on all ATB coins.
These 2016-P 5 oz Burnished ATB Harpers Ferry Silver Coins arrive with a US Mint box and include a Certificate of Authenticity.
