As an Early Release coin, these products had to meet specific criteria from the NGC. Most important among them, these coins had to ship to the NGC or an NGC-approved depository within the first 30 days of the release date set by the Chinese Mint.
On the obverse face of all Chinese Silver Panda coins is the image of a panda bear. For the 2016 coins, an adult panda is featured crawling along the trunk of a fallen tree. Engravings of the Chinese symbol for panda and the coin’s face value are featured on the obverse.
The reverse bears the image of the Temple of Heaven, a meeting place and religious site in the center of Beijing that was erected in the 16th century. The Temple of Heaven has served as a site for religious ceremonies, and even sacrifices.
You’ll notice that Chinese Silver Panda coins are no longer weighed and marked with Troy ounces. The Chines Mint switched to Grams for all of its Chinese Panda coins for 2016 to bring the coin’s measurements and markings in line with the nation’s metric system.
