One of the world’s most popular coin programs just got an overhaul in 2016, with the Chinese government and Chinese Mint opting to change the measurements system for its Chinese Gold Panda coins. Traditionally measured in Troy ounces, weight for all Chinese Panda coins is now measured and marked in grams instead. Today, the 2016 30 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coin is available in perfect condition from JM Bullion.

The changeover from Troy ounces to the use of Grams in measuring and marking Chinese Gold Panda coins applies to all Chinese Panda coins starting with the 2016 release. The government’s decision was made to bring the coins in line with the use of the metric system in the country, and doesn’t have a major impact on the program.
Chinese Gold Panda coins have long been available in 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz weights. Those are each being replaced with an equivalent coin weighed and marked in Grams, with the 2016 30 Gram Chinese Gold Panda replacing the 1 oz version.
Each 2016 30 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coin listed here is an MS70 specimen according to the PCGS. Coins in this condition are considered perfect; featuring full, original mint luster and lacking any detracting flaws.
On the obverse of each coin you’ll find the image of a Panda as it clings to and crawls across a fallen tree branch. Engravings on this face including the face value of the coin, along with its weight, metal content, and purity.
The reverse of each 2016 30 Gram Chinese Gold Panda coin is the Temple of Heaven, a historic social gathering spot and place of worship in Beijing which opened more than 400 years ago. This face has engravings of the nation’s name in Mandarin and the year of issue.
