On the brilliant new 2016 2 oz Proof Australian Silver Language of Love coin you’ll find the word love written in a variety of different languages, including English, Greek, French Maori, Korean, German, Vietnamese, and countless others. The design is filled in with small decorative hearts and lips, and features two doves in the upper-right field as well as Cupid drawing his arrow of love.
The obverse face of each coin has the familiar right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch of the United Kingdom. Her portrait on this coin comes from Ian Rank-Broadley’s 1998 depiction, and is considered the fourth-generation image of Her Majesty since she ascended to the throne in 1952.
On the reverse is the Language of Love design, featuring the word “Love” in various languages along with the aforementioned design accompaniments. The English-language version of Love is colorized in red, with a heart replacing the “O” in the word Love.
The Perth Mint is Australia’s oldest operating facility, having opened in 1898 as the final of three Royal Mint facilities opened on the continent by the British Royal Mint. Today it exists separately of the Royal Australian Mint and is operated by the state of Western Australia.
