Each 2016 1 oz Somalia Silver Elephant Monkey Privy coin in this listing is in BU condition. Silver coins in this condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice a range of minor flaws including breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks from the coining process.
First produced in 2004 with Somalia as the nation of issue, the coins had extremely limited mintages of just 5,000 silver coins annually through 2008. The obverse design used each year was changed to create collector value for the series. At no point in the series has the same design been used twice.
These Somalia Silver Elephant coins feature a unique Monkey Privy added to the obverse of the coin’s design field. Celebrating the Year of the Monkey on the Lunar Calendar, known also as the Zodiac, the mark is featured on the right side of the coin’s design field and includes the image of a seated monkey.
The obverse side of the coin features the latest African elephant image. In the design, a male elephant is found standing along the banks of a river. The sun rises high in the distance as the river snakes off toward the horizon.
On the reverse is the image of the coat of arms for Somalia. It features two young leopards holding up a shield that bears a single star on a background field of horizontal lines. The face value and year of issue are included on this side.
Germany’s Bavarian State Mint is one of its five state-owned mints. Founded near Munich in 1158, the Bavarian State Mint is one of the nation’s oldest and is controlled by the local government of the Free State of Bavaria.

“Only complaint I have with these coins is that the privy mark is rather small. Harder to see when one gets older. Great coin series to collect and very beautiful workmanship.”
