The Silverbug community on Reddit has had a profound impact on the precious metals industry in the last two years. This group of silver enthusiasts went from sharing their own insights on and preferences for silver products to creating a lineup that they themselves, as well as other, covet as part of a personal collection. Right now, the 2016 1 oz Silverbug Mermaid Silver Round is available from JM Bullion.
Round Highlights:
- Arrives in a protective plastic capsule.
- 3rd release for the Welcome to Silverbug Island series.
- Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
- Obverse features the image of a mermaid under the sea.
- Reverse bears the common design theme.
Mermaids are mythical creatures said to be half-human, and half-fish. They are capable of living under the oceans and seas without needing air to breath, and have (in many cases) the ability to communicate with humans.
For the third release in the Welcome to Silverbug Island series, the creative minds in the Silverbug community went under the surface of the ocean’s water to see what happens when sailors lose it all in search of silver and other precious metals.
The obverse side of the 2016 1 oz Silverbug Mermaid Silver Round features a mermaid swimming beneath the depths, exploring the contents of a shipwreck. In the background you’ll notice a ship no doubt destroyed by the kraken and sent to Davey Jones’s locker. As dolphins look on in amazement, the mermaid opens a chest full of silver coins.
On the reverse is the common design theme that will grace all of the Welcome to Silverbug Island rounds. Two islands of silver coins emerge from the surface of the water. A large island is visible in the background, where the bow of a sunken ship just peers above the water. In the foreground, a smaller reef is the sight of a shipwrecked galleon with no crew left and its pirate flag still flying high above.
All of the silver rounds in the Welcome to Silverbug Island release are products of the North American Mint. A family-owned and operated facility, North American Mint was founded in 1986 by William J. LaMere Sr. Today his sons Billy, Brad, and Michael run the family business.
