Without question, the most fearsome creature to ancient sailors was the kraken. At a time when mankind believed the Earth was flat and that you could sail over the edge, many sailors may have preferred to die falling off the end of the world over perishing at the tentacles of the famed kraken. Now, the kraken is captured brilliantly on the 2016 1 oz Silverbug Island Kraken Round.

The series of silverbug rounds started over a year ago with designs honoring the silverbug community, often featuring a small silver fairy. The Welcome to Silverbug Island takes on a pirate theme, focusing on the hunt for buried treasure.
While the elements were often a major hurdle for treasure hunters, the kraken was an aggressive foe that also stood in the way of those intent on finding riches on the high seas. Although the kraken is regularly associated with modern pirate lore, it actually originated as far back as the 13th century among the Vikings sailing the frigid North Atlantic.
On the obverse of this round you’ll find the terrifying image of a massive kraken emerging from the depths and capturing a huge pirate galleon in its tentacles. Once caught in its grip, there’s no escaping the wrath of the kraken. In the foreground of the design, you can see a tentacle from the kraken grabbing an open chest of silver coins. The year of issue is the only engraving on this face.
The reverse of the 2016 1 oz Silverbug Island Kraken Round is the image of a pirate ship run aground on an island of silver and gold coins. The engravings “Welcome to Silverbug Island” and “1 Troy Oz .999 Fine Silver” are included on this face.
All Silverbug rounds are produced by the North American Mint, a private mint founded by William J. LaMere and still owned by the family. Open since 1986, the North American Mint operates out of its facility in Rochester, New York.

“These silver bug series rounds shown don’t give them justice until you have one in hand and look at the art work put into them, and all of them will be great for any collector to have.
With all these central banks now admitting that Silver and Gold prices have been manipulated for years watch the prices of precious soar very soon, in fact it has already started so get these coins at this price because any day the SHTF day will be here and then it will be to late.”
