Birds of Prey coins were released in February and August during 2014 and 2015. The designs in the series celebrated the aerial predators found across Canada. All of the designs were created by Canadian artist Emily Damstra, who completed the final two designs in the coveted Canadian Wildlife Series.
Each 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Peregrine Falcon Reverse Proof coin available to you today is in PF70 condition according to the NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and lack any detracting flaws.
As a reverse proof coin, these specimens have a finish that is opposite that of a standard proof product. The strong, frosted appearance of the background field brilliantly offsets the deeply-mirrored, clear finish on the designs sets of the Peregrine Falcon and Queen Elizabeth II.
On the reverse side of the coin you’ll find Damstra’s original Peregrine Falcon design, with Susanna Blunt’s right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The Royal Canadian Mint capped total mintage for the new reverse proof Birds of Prey coins at 100,000, compared to the 1 million cap for the original series.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded by the British Royal Mint in 1908, with an original facility in Ottawa. Today there is an additional facility in Winnipeg.
