The reverse of each Wings of a Butterfly coin brings life to the flapping wings of a butterfly with the use of a translucent, red agate material. The butterfly is featured with its wings outstretched as it sits at the heart of an ox-eye sunflower, which dominates the majority of the reverse design field. The design on this side comes from Canadian artist Bonnie Ross.
On the obverse of the 2016 1 oz Proof Canadian Silver Colorful Wings of a Butterfly Coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy appears on the obverse of all Canadian coinage, and this is the latest design which was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt.
