Bullion coins inspired by the Chinese Lunar Calendar are a common product from mints around the globe today. Popularized by the Perth Mint in Australia starting in 1996, mints from Canada to New Zealand now produce Zodiac coins honoring the animals of the lunar calendar. JM Bullion now offers the 2016 1 oz New Zealand Silver Year of the Monkey Coin in BU condition.
Coin Highlights:
The Chinese Lunar Series coins from the New Zealand Mint were introduced for the first time in 2012 with a Year of the Dragon coin. Like other mints around the globe, the New Zealand Mint produces Lunar Series coins with a new design representative of the animal whose sign appears in a given year of the Zodiac.
Those born under the sign of the monkey on the Zodiac are said to be curious and fun-loving individuals, if not a bit egotistical and prone to pranks that result in emotional distress in others. All coins in the series feature a common obverse design.
On the obverse side of the 2016 1 oz New Zealand Silver Monkey coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998, Her Majesty’s right-profile picture is surrounded by engravings that read “Elizabeth II,” “Niue,” “Two Dollars,” and the year of issue.
The reverse side of the coin bears the latest image from the Lunar Series of the New Zealand Mint. Surrounding the image of the monkey are engravings that include the Chinese symbol for monkey, the phrase “2016 Year of the Monkey,” and the coin’s weight, purity, and metal content.

"Beautiful gift coin!"
"Awesome and interesting coin. I'm more of a bullion stacker but when a coin is this unique I grab some-esp. when on sale! Easy transaction and quick shipping as always; if you buy small quantities JMB is the best place for sure."
"Another beautiful coin. These are done in a style similar to reverse proofs. Received 6 of these and I'm glad I did. JM did their normal superfast delivery and excellent service!"
"These things are gorgeous...the minute I opened the package and saw the coins...I ran into my office and ordered six more. You will NOT be sorry if you get these...Stunning!!!"
"I ordered 2 of these and they are both flawless. Neat design. I will definitely be ordering a few more of these."
"I ordered this coin because it was on sale and it was a decent price. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by it. It doesn't look very good online, my opinion of course. I think the design is lacking. It looks much better in person and the contrast is pleasing to look at. The shipping was fast and the coins are in great condition. Thanks JM for another fine product."
