The New Zealand Mint is known for producing a variety of exciting character coins, and the Disney Corporation’s many beloved children’s characters are among the most prominent in the mint’s various series. Now a new series is available focusing on Walt Disney’s greatest character; Mickey Mouse. The 2016 1 oz Niue Mickey Mouse The Concert Series Gold Coin is available now from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Mickey Mouse is without question the most popular character from Disney. He debuted for the first time in the Steamboat Willy short in 1928. The Mickey Through the Ages release features the 2016 1 oz Niue Mickey Mouse The Concert Series Gold Coin as the highlight piece in the small series.
Classic engravings on this coin bring to life on a gold coin the image of Mickey as he appeared in the animated short film The Band Concert. Released in 1935, this was the first Mickey Mouse short released in color and featured Mickey as the frustrated leader of a band that just couldn’t get its act together.
On the reverse of each coin is the image of Mickey serving as the conductor of the band, standing on a small soapbox with sheet music strewn about on the floor in front of him and musical notes swirling around.
The obverse of the 2016 1 oz Niue Mickey Mouse The Concert Series Gold Coin bears the traditional right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley, this serves as the fourth-generation image of Her Majesty and features on all commonwealth coins.
New Zealand Mint is a private minting facility in Auckland, and is not associated with the national government of New Zealand. Each of these Mickey Through the Ages coins ships inside of a colorized, theme shipper with images of Mickey Mouse as the bandleader.
