As a reverse proof coin, these Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins have a unique finish. Rather than using the standard frosted finish on designs and a clear background field, the RCM struck these coins with a deep, mirrored finish on the design features and left the background field frosted. It creates a different type of contrast than that which is usually found on proofs.
On the obverse is the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her right-profile portrait was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. The reverse features the Canadian Maple Leaf’s primary design, that of the sugar maple leaf. Included on this side is the lovable image of a playful monkey, added to the lower left of the maple leaf in honor of the Year of the Monkey on the Zodiac.
