The grizzly bear is one of North America’s most iconic natural predators. In a rare scenario for any wild creature, the grizzly bear enjoys the position of apex predator in North America, with mankind and the encroachment of civilization posing the only real threat to the bears.
In 2011, the Royal Canadian Mint released its first Canadian Wildlife Series bullion coins, and the grizzly bear coin was second in that program. Now the RCM is reviving that series with a Wild Canada Series of Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins with privy marks commemorating those original designs.
The 2016 Grizzly Privy Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins in this product listing earned perfect certification from the NGC. PF70 coins have full, original luster from the mint and bear no detracting flaws.
These coins were struck as reverse proof specimens, indicating strong, frosted backgrounds and a deeply-mirrored finish on the design sets. As Early Release specimens, these coins arrived at the NGC or an approved depository within 30 days of the release date authorized by the Royal Canadian Mint.
On the reverse is the grizzly privy mark, featured to the lower left of the sugar maple leaf design. The obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief, and was designed in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt.
