Canadian wildlife-themed coins often feature only those animals that roam the mountains, forests, and plains of this diverse and expansive nation. As part of the Royal Canadian Mint’s $100 for $100 coin series, wildlife-themed designs are now expanding to explore the beauty contained within Canadian waters. The 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Orca Whale Coin is available now from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
These 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Orca Whale coins celebrate the diversity of wildlife found in Canadian territorial waters. The particular scene captured on the reverse of these coins represents the Western Coast of Canada near British Columbia.
Orca Whales are highly social creatures that live in family groups known as pods, which are matrilineal in nature. The Orca is an apex predator in the ocean, with no known predators that stalk it.
The image featured on the reverse of the coin includes two members of an Orca pod swimming in the chilly waters off the coast of British Columbia. Designed by Tennant, this image features one Orca jumping up out of the water as another swims just beneath the surface. Engravings include “Canada 2016” above the design field and “100 Dollars” below.
On the obverse is the standard right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II created by Susanna Blunt in 2003. Engravings are simple on this side and include “Elizabeth II” and “D.G. Regina.”
Royal Canadian Mint coins are among the finest products in the world. The RCM operates two facilities, with one in Winnipeg and its original location in Ottawa. These 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Orca Whale coins are the 8th in this particular series.
