Just when you thought there was nothing the Royal Canadian Mint could do to enhance the appeal of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, a new design feature is introduced to a special-edition 2016 release of the coins. Right now, the unique 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Majestic Maple Leaf coin is available from JM Bullion, but only while supplies last!
Coin Highlights:
The Royal Canadian Mint rarely messes with the primary design feature of its coveted Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coin. The Majestic Maple Leaf coin is an exception to the rule, and features the use of a drusy stone set on top of the coin’s one-time design.
Created by Canadian artist Tony Bianco, this 2016 1 oz Canadian Silver Majestic Maple Leaf coin bears an all-new design in the background of maple leaves fluttering in the breeze. Set in the center of the design is a drusy stone, with a sugar-like surface that adds soft colors to the reverse imagery of the coin.
On the reverse is the new maple leaf design from Tony Bianco. Immediately your eyes are drawn to the drusy stone, which is carved in the shape of a maple leaf and placed on top of the coin’s surface. Engravings on this face include the nation of issue, the face value of the coin, and Bianco’s initials of “TB.”
The obverse features the familiar right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed by Susanna Blunt, the image includes engravings of the Queen’s name, the year of issue, and the phrase “D.G. Regina.”
The Royal Canadian Mint was the first in the world to produce its silver coins using .9999 pure silver, and continues its tradition of innovation to this very day. Founded in 1908, the RCM has two facilities, one in Ottawa and another in Winnipeg.
