On the reverse face of the coin you’ll find the image of a cougar leaping at its prey. The cougar’s long, sleek, and powerful body is featured in full-length figure, and surrounded by engravings of “Canada,” “9999,” and “Fine Silver 1 oz. Argent Pur.”
The obverse features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this side also bears engravings of “Elizabeth II,” “5 Dollars,” “D.G. Regina,” and “2016.” Emily Damstra, famed Canadian artist who previously worked on the Canadian Wildlife and Birds of Prey Series, designed the cougar on the reverse.
Founded in 1908, the Royal Canadian Mint quickly became one of the world’s foremost refiners of precious metals. Today it operates facilities in Winnipeg and Ottawa.
