Australia’s Perth Mint has a history of creating impressive bullion coins using native species as inspiration for the designs. The Australian Kookaburra was introduced in 1990, and continues to this day with new designs available each year. The Australian Koala series debuted in 2007, and quickly became the most popular coin from the mint.
These all-new Australian Silver Kangaroo coins offer a number of firsts for numismatists interested in Perth Mint products. First and foremost, it is the first silver bullion coin from the mint with .9999 pure silver. Second, it boasts a new engraved security feature, with the letter “A” micro-laser engraved within the A in the word “Australian” on the coin’s reverse face.
All 2016 Australian Silver Kangaroo coins available in this product listing are perfect specimens with an MS70 grade from the NGC. Coins with an MS70 grade have full, original luster and bear no detracting flaws of any kind.
The reverse face of the coin features the iconic red kangaroo design from Dr. Stuart Devlin. Engravings include “Australian Kangaroo” above the design, and the coin’s year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content below.
On the obverse is the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s image is surrounded by engravings that read “Elizabeth II,” “Australia,” “1 Dollar,” and “IRB,” as a note to Ian Rank-Broadley, the man who designed this depiction of the Queen.
