The nation’s official platinum bullion coin is available again in 2016 as the American Platinum Eagle gets set to soar from the United States Mint. All American Eagle coins, from gold and silver to platinum, feature the same design concepts for the obverse and reverse faces. Each coin’s obverse depicts Lady Liberty in a different pose. Only the 2016 1 oz American Platinum Eagle coin has a modern design, with the gold and silver coins using historic designs from the early 20th century.
The reverse of all American Eagles features a depiction of the national emblem of the United States, the bald eagle. As with the other versions of the coin, a modern artist created the unique depiction of the eagle for the American Platinum Eagle series.
Each 2016 1 oz American Platinum Eagle coin in this listing earned a perfect certification from the NGC. Coins with an MS70 grade exhibit full, original mint luster and feature no detracting flaws of any kind.
Coins with an Early Release designation earned this special listing for their arrival period at the NGC. In order to assign this designation, the NGC must have received these 2016 American Platinum Eagle coins within the first 30 days of the release date for 2016-dated coins from the US Mint.
On the obverse of the American Platinum Eagle is former Chief Engraver John Mercanti’s depiction of the Statue of Liberty. Known as “Liberty looking into the future,” it offers a close-up view of Liberty’s face as she gazes off into the distance.
The reverse of the 2016 1 oz American Platinum Eagle coin bears the image of the American bald eagle as it flies over the sun and its outstretched rays. Referred to as “Eagle soaring above America,” this design has been in use on the reverse of the bullion coin since 1997 and was created by US Mint Assistant Engraver Thomas D. Rogers.
