Roddenberry’s Star Trek debuted on American television in 1966 with William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy playing the title roles of Captain Kirk and Spock. Kirk was in charge of the U.S.S. Enterprise starship. It remains the most recognizable ship from the series, and has been reproduced in modern television series and feature films.
On this 2016 1 oz Colorized Canadian Silver Star Trek Enterprise Coin, the Royal Canadian Mint offers a stunning, colorized depiction of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The image comes from a scene in the 1968 episode entitled I, Mudd, with a rich depth of color that brings the starship to life.
The reverse face of the coin features this colorized design, with the U.S.S. Enterprise shaded in hues of black, silver, and grey, while the planet it passes over has amazing reds, oranges, and yellows to bring life to the overall design. Engravings include the nation of issue, face value, and year of release.
On the obverse is the traditional right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Each coin ships individually in a maroon clamshell display case, enclosed within a stunning Star Trek graphic box.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded by the Royal Mint in London in 1908. The primary goal at the time was to refine precious metals discovered in the Yukon Territories for the British Crown. Today, it is the sovereign mint of Canada and produces coinage at its Ottawa and Winnipeg facilities.
