In the feature film The Brave Little Tailor, Mickey plays a tailor from humble origins who must defeat a giant threatening Minnie Mouse. Set in medieval times, Mickey uses his brain to defeat the strength and size of the giant, winning the hand of the lovely Princess Minnie in the process.
The feature film was based upon the Grimm fairy tale with the same storyline, and was released in 1938. It was the most elaborate and expensive Disney film to date, and remains one of the company’s most expensive to this day. It was nominated for an Academy Award in 1939 following its release.
On the reverse of each 2016 ¼ oz Niue Mickey Mouse The Brave Little Tailor Series Gold Coin is the image of Mickey Mouse from the film, depicted leaning against a sword handle with a smile on his face.
The obverse of each Brave Little Tailor Series Gold Coin includes the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy has appeared on commonwealth coinage since 1952 when she ascended to the throne. This particular design was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
All 2016 ¼ oz Niue Mickey Mouse The Brave Little Tailor Series Gold Coins ship inside of wooden display cases, with a Mickey Mouse-themed shipper that includes full-color artwork. An individual, numbered Certificate of Authenticity comes with each coin.
Located in Auckland, the New Zealand Mint is the only mint facility in the country. The privately owned company does not work with the federal government on the production of coinage, which takes place for the country overseas at the Royal Canadian Mint and Royal Mint.
