Through the first three years of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf’s production (from 1979-1982), the world-renowned gold coin was offered in only the 1 oz weight. Beginning in the early 1980s, however, the ¼ oz coin was put into circulation. This coin, though much smaller than its 1 oz. counterpart, was an immediate hit amongst collectors and investors not only from Canada, but from around the world as well. With the release of the 2016 ¼ oz Gold Maple Leaf, the RCM has added yet another stunning piece to this longstanding line of coins.
Coin Highlights:
The 2016 Gold Maple Leaf features a design similar to that of previous years’, but the leaf that can be found in the center of the reverse side boasts some subtle changes. The leaf dominates the coin and is so stunningly intricate that, with the naked eye, you are able to decipher the leaf’s individual veins and its textured surface. Being that it is raised off the surface of the coin, without even looking you are able to feel the leaf’s realistic texture. Surrounding the leaf’s image are purity indicated as well as an inscription identifying the ¼ oz weight.
On the obverse side you will find the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. The storied Queen has been on most every Gold Maple Leaf since 1979, though her image has changed with her age. This depiction shows the Queen in all her beauty, sporting a wavy hairstyle and an elegant pearl necklace. Beneath the Queen’s image is where you will find the CAD$10 face value.
The coin boasts reeded edges and is sold in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. For those that may not know, Brilliant Uncirculated is another way of saying that these pieces were never touched by human hands and are in the best possible condition.
2016 is just around the corner, and so too is the release of these coins. Preorders will soon be accepted, but until then we encourage you to check out our wide selection of Gold Maple Leaf coins from previous years. To see similar products, visit our Gold Maple Leafs page.
