The American Gold Eagle programs celebrates 30 years of production in 2016, and continues to prove itself as one of the most sought-after gold bullion coins in the world. Though it lacks the mintage numbers of its silver counterpart, the American Gold Eagle is more diverse, offering investors and collectors four weights to choose from across the three versions. Right now, the 2016 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle coin is available in perfect condition from JM Bullion.

American Gold Eagle coins were introduced in 1986 following passage of the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. Similar to the Silver Eagle legislation, Congress authorized the United States Mint and Treasury Department to produce an official bullion coin for the federal government. As a stipulation of the program, all American Gold Eagles must contain only gold that is sourced from within the United States.
On the obverse of each coin is the image of Lady Liberty, surrounded by 50 stars with images of Washington DC visible at her feet. Her body is silhouetted by the rays of the rising sun in the background. Augustus Saint-Gaudens created this design originally in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle.
The reverse image is exclusive to the American Gold Eagle, and was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. Her design features a family of nesting bald eagles, and is accompanied by engravings that include the coin’s face value, weight, metal content, and purity.
All American Gold Eagles are now struck at the West Point Mint facility, which also handles production of the nation’s other popular bullion and proof coins, including the American Silver Eagle and American Gold Buffalo.
