Today, the 2016 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle coin is available in perfect condition from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Each 2016 ¼ oz American Gold Eagle listed through JM Bullion today is a Mint State 70 specimen according to the NGC. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster and feature no contact marks, blemishes, breaks in the luster, hairlines, or other detracting flaws.
The American Gold Eagle coin program debuted in 1986 with bullion and proof versions available, but fractional-weight coins such as this ¼ oz specimen were only available in bullion. Historically the smaller coins were minted in numbers similar to the 1 oz, but today the ¼ oz American Gold Eagle has a much lower mintage than the 1 oz or 1/10 oz coin, which is the most popular of the four weights.
On the obverse face of every American Gold Eagles is the image of Lady Liberty. First created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this image depicts Lady Liberty leading the nation into an unknown future. Featured in full-length relief, she strides forward from the city of Washington DC with her torch held high to offer a guiding light for the country.
The reverse features a design used exclusively on the American Gold Eagle. Created by Miley Busiek in 1986, the depictions offers a glimpse at a family of nesting bald eagles. As the male flies over the nest, a female keeps a close watch of the hatchlings in the nest.
