First introduced to the market in 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf series of coins has risen to the ranks of being one of the most popular gold coins in the world. For the first three years of production, the coin was only available in the 1 oz size, but shortly thereafter the 1/10 oz coin was introduced. Though the exact image of the maple leaf has changed periodically over the years, it is always present on the reverse side. When it comes to the 2016 1/20 oz Gold Maple Leaf, the maple leaf depicted on the reverse is extremely detailed and has a texture that can be felt. Being that it is raised from the coin’s face, the leaf and its texture is very easy to feel and gives the coin a bit of uniqueness that most other coins do not have.
On the coin’s obverse you will find the image of Queen Elizabeth II facing rightward. Her image is raised from the coin’s face just like the maple leaf on the reverse. Beneath the Queen’s image you will find the CAD$1 face value. Finally, the coin has reeded edges which give it even more texture and make it closely resemble most coins from the US Mint.
