Star Trek: The Original Series debuted on American television in the fall of 1966. Though it only aired for three seasons before cancellation, it became an instant cult classic that inspired generations of science-fiction fans.
Following its cancellation, the Star Trek universe of Gene Roddenberry would only grow over the decades to come. To date there have been a total of five television series aired in the US, and as of 2016, there are some 13 feature films that have been produced since the 1970s.
The Royal Canadian Mint is among many to produce and distribute commemorative coins in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of the franchise. All product images are produced under license with CBS Consumer Products with all copyrights and trademarks the property of CBS.
