All 2016 1/2 Gram Somalia Gold Elephant Coins in this JM Bullion listing are in BU condition. Coins in this condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you will notice minor flaws on the surfaces that include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks from the coining process.
Somalia Gold Elephant bullion coins are part of a long-running series of Somalia Elephant coins that include silver proof and bullion options as well. There are also gold proof coins, and the newly introduced 2016 Platinum Elephant, which marks the first release of the series in platinum.
On the obverse of each 2016 1/2 Gram Somalia Gold Elephant Coin you’ll find the unique design of the African elephant used only for this year’s release. The image depicts an elephant standing along the banks of a body of water with its trunk raised in the air and its mouth open. The sun/moon rises toward the sky in the background, along with a small cluster of trees.
The reverse of the Somalia Elephant series has featured the same design since its debut in 2004. The coat of arms for Somalia includes a heraldic shield with a single star set against horizontal lines in the background. The year of issue, nation of issue, and face value of the coin are engraved on this side.
Somalia Gold Elephant coins in this release ship in protective plastic capsules and are products of the Bavarian State Mint. Founded in Munich, the Bavarian State Mint is owned by the Free State of Bavaria and serves as one of the primary mints for Germany.
