After nearly 30 years of production, it takes special efforts to add renewed interest in the American Silver Eagle. The world’s most popular coin has been available in bullion and proof since 1986, but in 2006 a new series of Silver Eagles was introduced that featured a special design. Right now, you can purchase a 2015-W Burnished American Silver Eagle from JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The Burnished American Silver Eagle was first introduced by the United States Mint in 2006. Burnished Silver Eagles were struck for three years before the program was put on a two-year hiatus. Since returning in 2011, the Burnished American Silver has been struck each year by the US Mint, but mintage for these coins is low. Inventory for these coins does not last long due to its beautiful design, high demand, and low mintage.
In order to create the coveted design on the Burnished American Silver Eagle, the United States Mint used a unique coining process similar to that used when creating reverse proof coins. Rather than using a burnished die, the US Mint chose to use burnished blanks and struck them with a standard die cast. Each blank is hand loaded into the coining press before being struck, creating the stunning image featured on these coins.
The United States Mint operates four state-of-the-art facilities across the country. While three of those four contribute to production of American Silver Eagle, only the West Point Mint is responsible for striking the Burnished American Silver Eagle.
