This campaign saw President Truman travel the country by train, delivering speeches from the rear platform of his railcar, ultimately securing an unexpected victory in the 1948 election.
As First Lady, Bess Truman often opted for greater privacy and was selective in her public engagements, both in her role as First Lady and on behalf of President Truman.
