The Royal Canadian Mint creates a unique intersection between its sovereign bullion coin program and lunar design with the addition of lunar privy marks on the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. For 2015, the mountain goat privy mark represents the Year of the Goat on the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
Each of the 2015 1 oz Sheep Privy Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins in this listing has a near-perfect grade of PF69. According to the NGC, coins in this condition have their full, original mint luster, but also as many as two minor detracting flaws. Traditional proof coins feature contrasting fields of matte and mirrored finishes.
These Sheep Privy Canadian Silver Maple Leafs have a unique reverse proof finish. This means that the design set now bears the deeply-mirrored finish, while the coin’s background field has a strong, frosted finish. The sense of contrast remains, but the visual fields are the opposite in appearance from traditional proof strikings.
On the reverse side of the coin you’ll find the sheep privy mark. All of the original design features of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf are present, including the sugar maple leaf and its common inscriptions (nation of issue, weight, metal content, etc.). Below the sugar maple you’ll find a small privy mark featuring a mountain goat.
The obverse bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, this right-profile portrait is the third-generation image of Her Majesty on Silver Maple Leaf coins.
