The Somalia Silver Elephant Coin is one of the faster growing coin programs in terms of mintage, visibility, and popularity. Part of the African Wildlife Series, the elephant first appeared on a coin struck for the nation of Rwanda. Since 2004, the coin has appeared as a representative of the nation of Somalia in the African Wildlife Series. Right now, you have the chance to purchase a 2015 1 Kilo Somalia Silver Elephant Coin from JM Bullion with a special antique finish.
Coin Highlights:
Somalia Silver Elephant coins are one of the more unique bullion products in the world, due in no small part to their status. Although it is a bullion product with a face value in Somali Shillings, its true status as legal tender in that nation remains suspect due to the lack of political stability there.
Each year the Bavarian State Mint in Germany issues these coins with a new design, although the motif remains that of an African Elephant. These particular coins feature an antique finish that gives the coins a luster a warm visual appeal, while adding depth and character to the design features.
On the reverse side of the 2015 1 Kilo Somalia Silver Elephant Coin is the image of an adult elephant leading a young calf across the open landscape. Engravings include “African Wildlife” above, “Elephant” to the lower left, and the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity to the lower right.
The obverse features the coat of arms for the Republic of Somalia. The central image is that of a shield with horizontal bars set across its background, and a single star in the middle of the shield. The words “Somali Republic” are engraved above, the year of minting is split on either side of the shield, and the face value is featured below.
The Bavarian State Mint is a state-owned entity of the Free Republic of Bavaria. This particular mint boasts numerous international partners and was originally founded in 1158.

"JM Bullion does an excellent job of packing and making sure your order gets to you in a safe and timely fashion. Great coin!"
"The coin is absolutely stunning, the packaging was less impressive than the coin but absolutely fine. I honestly cannot understand how these are still available, if I had the money I'd buy them all."
"The antique finish is nicely done. It has a matte, uniformed cast-iron color finish. The packaging is very poor though, with thin plastic on the lining. Mine was broken into pieces upon opening. The COA is also cheaply printed without any serial number. If you think of buying this coin as a numismatic, just forget the whole packaging. The coin is pretty, but it is a shame about the presentation."
