The Chinese Silver Panda is one of the fastest growing coin programs in the world in terms of popularity. Struck each year under the authority of the People’s Bank of China, the Chinese Silver Panda has similarities and differences with other sovereign silver coin programs. Right now, you can obtain your own 2015 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda from JM Bullion with an MS70 grade from the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains 1 oz of .999 pure silver.
- Minted by the Chinese Mint in China.
- Received a perfect grade of MS70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
- Ships in a PCGS slab with a panda label.
Together with the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, the PCGS is one of the toughest coin grading services. In order for a coin to earn a Mint State 70 grade, the PCGS has inspected the coin to verify that it has its full, original luster and no detracting marks or blemishes visible on its surface. The product available in this listing comes with a special-edition Panda Label that features a full-color photograph of a panda in the wild.
The Chinese Silver Panda program was introduced 1983 and has had only one disruption in production, coming in 1986. Similar to other sovereign silver coin programs, the motif on the front is the same each year and the obverse image is the same from one year to the next. However, unlike other sovereign silver coins, the specific panda motif changes from year to year on the reverse side of the coin. An additional difference is the range of coins produced. Chinese Silver Panda coins are available in ½ oz, ¼ oz, 5 oz, 12 oz, and 1 kilogram weights in addition to the 1 oz weight featured in this listing.
On the reverse side of the 2015 coin is the image of a lone panda sitting in front of a wall of bamboo and chewing on a root. Engravings on this side are limited to the coin’s face value of 10 Yuan. The obverse side bears the traditional image of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
The People’s Bank of China does not engrave mint marks on Chinese Silver Pandas, making it difficult to identify individual mints involved in production. All Chinese Silver Pandas include .999 fine silver and have a mintage capped at 8 million coins in recent years.
