The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf was one of the first gold bullion coins minted to challenge the supremacy of the Krugerrand in the global precious metals market. The coins are produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, which is recognized around the globe as one of the highest quality mints in operation today. The mint produces special edition collections each year, and in 2015 they released the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Premium Set. Each of these sets feature four coins; a 1 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz coin, giving each set a total gold weight of 1.4 troy ounces. Each coin in the set is minted with .9999 pure gold and is in proof condition with a reverse proof finish.
Coin Highlights:
In a rare break with tradition, these Canadian Gold Maple Leafs not only feature a different design on the reverse side, but each coin has a different depiction of the maple leaf. These are limited edition coins from the Royal Canadian Mint, and each has been polished to a fine reverse proof finish, bringing a brilliant, mirror-like shine to the design. In another first, the 1 oz coin in the set features individual serial numbers lettered on the edge of the coin.
On the reverse side of each coin is a unique design of the maple leaf. These images range from a large maple leaf with multiple branches on the 1 oz coin, to a leaf that appears to be elegantly floating toward the ground on the 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz coins. The obverse still features Susanna Blunt’s right-profile portrait of England’s Queen Elizabeth II.
