The Mexican Silver Libertad coin program is the official silver bullion coin of Mexico, and is one of the most diverse coin series available today. Although it is not minted with volumes matching other sovereign silver coins, it is growing in popularity for its purity and silver content. Today, the 2015 5 oz Mexican Silver Libertad is available courtesy of JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
Mexico first introduced the images used on the modern Libertad coin in the 1920s. During the nation’s centennial celebration of the start of its War of Independence, symbols such as Winged Victory and the national coat of arms were used on new coins from the Mexico City Mint.
Today, the Mexican Silver Libertad presents those same images on the nation’s modern sovereign coin program. First launched in 1982 with a 1 oz weight available, there are now a total of eight coins available in the series, including 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, ¼ oz, ½ oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, and 1 kilogram.
Each of the coins in this product listing is a 5 oz Mexican Silver Libertad with a near-perfect grade of MS69. Coins in this grade have their full, original luster, with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. As part of the Early Release series, these coins arrived at the NGC within the first 30 days of production in 2015.
On the obverse side of each coin is the image of the statue of Winged Victory, a symbol of Mexico’s triumph over Spain. The reverse side features the Mexican coat of arms, surrounded by historic versions of the seal dating back to the nation’s independence.
All Mexican Silver Libertad coins are produced at the Mexican Mint, one of the oldest operating facilities in the world.
